I went to do my own lit' research on the courses and faculties. Life is rather contradicting. I am selling US Education and here I am going to Australia to study. My boss always claim to want to sponsor me but I don't like to owe people a living & bond of 3 yrs is seriously NO JOKE! I don't wish to be tied down and be in a job just for gratitude like my colleague slogging for the company for 8 yrs.
Degree is juz a Degree: A headstart. Seriously saying, 90% of employers don't even care how specialized your degree is as long as it's a "decent" Degree. Work experience is EVERYTHING. Believe it or not, jobs are everywhere but if you hold your nose too way up and carrying arrogance weigh with high expectations, you are going nowhere.
I went for a job interview the other day and met this NUS Business Grad. She's sure cream of the crop but she was complaining to me she can't find a job and now she have to laid back for a Diploma-required job. She lower herself down because reality bites.
I admired her but how many can actually do that?
I've learnt enough in area of Education. I've seen the successful people in industries and they are not from local universities but people who have GOOD ATTITUDE, YRS OF EXPERIENCE, Degrees sought through part-time. I always salute by telling them I really do admire their success.
I've heard enough advices. Singapore is into US education. That's for sure. Look at SMU Applications, Look at the elimination of 'O' Levels, Look at the world's leading economy, Look at what employers are seeking for. Liberal Arts are finally showing its worthiness in Singapore. Take note: I used FINALLY because Singapore is LAGGING. 10 yrs time, You will see a new incorporate Education system and You will know what I mean.
I wish, I wish, How I wish I could go Calfornia to study. Preferably: Florida State University, SUNY Buffalo, Calfornia State University. Way too expensive unless I do through distance learning - I lack the discipline and the SAT results as well. Too far from home, I will miss my family :(
I am not saying UK or Australia is not good enough. Sure, Australian graduates are everywhere, flooded, Abundant in Singapore. So much for the differentiation - Australia have placed themselves in a state of OVERBRANDING with too many Distance Learning programmes affiliated to Private/Commercial Schools.
They have placed themselves in a state of Marketing Dilemma - Anyone can obtain an Australian Degree as long as they have the financial capability. Shortening the duration, restructuring the course curriculum. It seems at anyone's fingertips now.
Where is the positioning in the market now? - MONEY TALK? or MARKET SHARE? -
In My point of view, UK education is very specialized but very rigid and lack flexibility. Not as in a bad way but for certain studies like law or journalism, UK is nonetheless the best choice. For Business, Communications, Psychology: Just no longer relevant in today's society. Employers want people who can think out of the box, multi-disciplinary, Multi-taskings, Multi-talents. Best people get the best jobs.
Been stuck in Singapore system for past 13 yrs, I had enough of memorising work. I had enough of boring lectures. I need something enlightening, something interesting, something I wanna explore & discover. Come on, GIVE IT TO ME! Shone it!
